Alcatraz Island
After the ravages of the Civil War had torn at the heart and innocence of the US, America longed to return to its optimistic simplicity. During this time of growing pains, a publication was made that showed the landscape and development of the US at the time. It was title Picturesque America and utilized some of the greatest artists of the time to show, not just the lay of the land, but the character of an area. They produced a wildly successful series of images that could be subscribed to, or later purchased bound in a book. The images are romantic views, yet still very accurate. It provides the viewer with an interesting blend of history and the timbre of the age. Here we see the classic island off the coast of San Francisco, with beautiful framing. With ornate inner liner, textured mat, wood frame and UV protecting glass this image has been archivally framed.

Framed "Carte Des Nouvelles Decouvertes, Extrait d'une Carte Japonoise de l'Univers"
This beautifully framed map was made by Robert de Vaugondy for an ENCYCLOPEDIE by Denis Diderot. This map has exceptionally wide margins, and bright hand coloring. Diderot's maps were intended to further an understanding of the Western Coast of America, and NE Asia, during a time period immediately prior to Cook's first voyage where numerous theories abounded on these regions, especially the NW Coast of America. This original copper plate engraving is in excellent condition. The map shows the northern part of Siberia and the coast of Asia and appears to be a companion of maps #1. Other details include "The Sea of the West" explorer routes, and descriptive text. Framed with a unique wooden moulding, triple matting which bring out the colors of the map, and a fillet. Fantastic gift for and history buff! All Art Source framing use archival materials including acid-free mat board and UVA protective glass.

FRAMED Arbuckles' Coffee Card of Afghanistan

Founded in the 1860's, the Arbuckle Coffee Company grew and expanded with 19th century America. It was a staple the cowboys carried with them on the trail, and a commodity commonly found in American homes at the time. The Arbuckle Company made a unique advertising effort in the late 1880's and began to enclose small decorative trade cards in their packages of coffee. The front of the card contained a colorful image of children, flowers, sports or even a map, while the back of the card had their advertising and some descriptive information. Later these trade cards became so collectible that the company focused on their success and issued them separately as premiums. These charming map cards illustrate beautifully the history and character the lands. Each map shows lakes and rivers, cities and towns, forts, the population, and area in square miles. Each card measures 3 1/4" x 5 1/4".
