This large scale map came from Rand McNally's Commercial Atlas of America. The Rand McNally Atlas was unusual for its time because it was designed to be used by merchants and shippers. Therefore this map is exceptionally detailed in that it shows every railroad, post office, and small town in existence at that time. Many towns shown in this map have since ceased to exist, or have been swallowed up by larger towns. This map has beautiful color and would look very nice framed.

This antique maps was made by Maria Giovanni Cassini, a painter, engraver and a major Italian map maker. This map came from a major Italian atlas, the 4 volume Nuovo Atlante Geographico. These maps were known for their colorful and attractive cartouches, and as you can see this map in no exception. Cassini maps have become increasingly rare, with only 14 maps offered for sale by dealers in the last 10 years. Map has brilliant color and crisp engraving. This map also has a date of 1797 printed on the map. This map features the east coast of Canada, featuring Newfoundland, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Excellent condition with original hand coloring.

Published at the beginning of the 20th century these charming smaller maps by an Italian publisher are a rare and interesting treat. While America began its ascendancy of the map trade, other international publishers continued in producing fine work. These Italian maps are fine evidence of that, as they supply us with much more detail, while yet maintaining simplicity and nice visual composition. They are current to the time, and have a nice muted color. These maps include information for cities, towns, railroad lines, rivers and basic topography. Condition is very good.

This map is from a rare and incredibly thorough publication by the French publisher Bouillet. Full of the French sensibility of the time, this map combines fine craftsmanship with the latest information available. The end result is a map that is visually interesting and historically useful. The detail is quite good, while not being so dense as to obscure its legibility. Complimented by full hand color this small map is an interesting historical reference with a good deal potential for framing.

This map by Dr. Richard Andree (1835-1912), for his General Hand Atlas, is a wonderful example of the fine German engraving work. The detail noting even the smallest of villages is extraordinary.
