Carte de L'Espagne et du Portugal (Spain and Portugal)

In cartography the continuing lineage of tradition can be a great asset. This map is evidence of that. As successor to the great DeVaugondy, the French publisher Delamarche benefit from his predecessors volume of work and high standards. With fine quality engravings and simple, practical cartography, this map by Delamarche is some of the best quality for the time. Subtle original hand color helps clarify and enhance the image. Die Reiche im Suden Europa's (realms of Europe)
|
|
In a word, these early 19th century Germany maps could be called refined. This map is from an uncommon set of maps published by Lowenberg in 1839. These fine engravings many times focused on a specific theme (such as an empire or campaign) or included interesting historical notations. This map is a fine example of how advanced German cartography was for the time, with deftly engraved topography, clear and distinct notations, and well laid out composition, these maps included a wealth of information on a sheet. While these sheets are toned with age, it is not unusually harsh or dark, and doesn"t affect the charm of the image.

Art Source is proud to offer you this extremely
rare, vintage 1806 Le Sage Atlas. Le Sage, also
known as Las Cases, made this 1806 edition of
"Atlas Historique" in Florence. The "Atlas
Historique" was one of three produced by the
map maker, and this hard to find edition is not
included in Tooley's Dictionary. The beautiful and
remarkably well preserved maps featured here
were copper plate engraved on sturdy, hand
made paper. This large scale French map shows
Spain and Portugal divided by kingdoms.
Interesting features, including since changed
boarders and little explored coast lines, make
this map an valuable document. Surrounding the
map is informative text in French providing facts
about the area on the map. Details include the
names of regions, notes on important
discoveries, and identification of rivers and
mountains. Each map is individually dated at the
bottom of the page.

FRAMED Arbuckles' Coffee Card of Spain
|
|
Founded in the 1860's, the Arbuckle Coffee Company grew and expanded with 19th century America. It was a staple the cowboys carried with them on the trail, and a commodity commonly found in American homes at the time. The Arbuckle Company made a unique advertising effort in the late 1880's and began to enclose small decorative trade cards in their packages of coffee. The front of the card contained a colorful image of children, flowers, sports or even a map, while the back of the card had their advertising and some descriptive information. Later these trade cards became so collectible that the company focused on their success and issued them separately as premiums. These charming map cards illustrate beautifully the history and character the lands. Each map shows lakes and rivers, cities and towns, forts, the population, and area in square miles. Each card measures 3 1/4" x 5 1/4".
